This is one of the most important topics that comes to any at student. Many think to be an artist need some special qualities. But the reality is different from fact. Art is an universal language and it can be understood by all, from the early man to the present computer savvy modern man. Their are a few requirements to become an artist. This is different from ” How to become a great artist”. I will discuss about that in the future articles. But for now how to become an artist.

You need to have the following basic requirements:

1. Lots of interest in art,
2. Take the art class very seriously,
3. Learn all that is available about art and its related topics,
4. Study how to compose a painting, light and color, perspective, human anatomy, still life, landscape, flowers, animals etc.,
5. Practice a lot,
6. Study paintings of great artists and of course local artists,
7. Go to the local art gallery and have a chat with the curator,
8. Study art from museums,
9. Learn about the artist’s life and their inspiration towards art,
10. Learn from books, websites , etc.,

You may not like the still life or landscape paintings but it is necessary to learn. Because the learning helps you to understand art and you will be able to to do good quality paintings. Some times the techniques you learn in landscape paintings will help to do good portrait.

select the medium of your choice and start experimenting. Many have a question which is the best medium. Well the answer is all the medium are best in their true nature. Take all the medium and paint. Your inner self will tell you the one you like. And that is your medium.
